RCKC Construction Update for the Week of 4-21-25

“This information is made available to assist motorists in planning for construction delays,” Travis Bartholomew, Managing Director of the Road Commission said. “Motorists are reminded to be alert, slow down, stay informed, and be cautious when approaching a work zone. Remember, these projects signify progress in improving our infrastructure!”

Please note: This information is subject to change. Projects, road closures and timing can change from day to day, depending upon a number of factors, and traffic delays can develop in a matter of minutes due to weather conditions, emergency situations, etc.

Alamo Township

Road: E Avenue - 1,270' east of Ravine Road to 2,850' east of Ravine Road
Current Status: Week of 4/21 tree removal will begin
Detour: N/A
Project Information: Pulverize, Double Chp Seal
Start Date: April 21, 2025
End Date: October 15, 2025

Road: F Avenue - Ravine Road to 12th Street
Current Status: Week of 4/21 tree removal will begin
Detour: N/A
Project Information: HMA Overlay
Start Date: April 21, 2025
End Date: October 15, 2025

Road: 8th Street - G Avenue to Hart Drive
Current Status: Week of 4/21, gravel will be spread from F Avenue to Hart Drive, and the road will be pulverized as well. Tree removal to follow.
Detour: Road Closed to Thru Traffic
Project Information: Gravel, Pulverize, HMA Overlay, Drainage Improvements
Start Date: April 21, 2025
End Date: October 15, 2025

Charleston Township

Road: 38th Street - 4,672' south of G Avenue to 528' south of G Avenue
Current Status: Week of 4/14, gravel will be spread and the road will be pulverized. Tree removal to follow. 
Detour: Road Closed to Thru Traffic
Project Information: Gravel, Pulverize, HMA Base Paving 
Start Date: April 14, 2025
End Date: October 15, 2025

Comstock Township

Road: Sprinkle Road - I-94 BL to 581' north of Lake Street
Current Status: Contractor is working on the east edge of Sprinkle Road, the week of 4/21. The lane closure will change to the outside northbound lane of Sprinkle Road for this work. 
Detour: Lane closures are anticipated. No closure or detour of the roadway is anticipated.
Project Information: 1.0 miles of construction, including concrete shoulder and median, rumble strips, and paving.
Start Date: April 7, 2025
End Date: June 14, 2025

Pavilion Township

Road: Q Avenue - 29th Street to 34th Street
Current Status: Tree removals and other clearing are continuing into mid April. 
Detour: Q Avenue will be closed to through traffic during the project. The detour route is 29th Street, S Avenue, and 36th Street.
Project Information: This project includes tree clearing, crushing the existing asphalt to gravel-sized pieces and mixing with the existing gravel, widening of the shoulder, paving, and drainage improvements, including some ditching. 
Start Date: March 17, 2025
End Date: August 4, 2025

Richland Township

Road:  G Avenue - 28th Street to 38th Street (Richland / Ross Townships)
Current Status:  Culvert work on G Avenue east of 32nd Street should be complete 4/21 or 4/22, weather dependent. The contractor will then move to G Avenue at 28th Street. A closure and detour for G Avenue and 28th Street will be in effect. 
Detour:  G Avenue will be closed to through traffic at 28th Street. The detour route is 32nd Street and Gull Road. 28th Street will also be closed to through traffic. The detour route is Gull Road, Sprinkle Road, and H Avenue.
Project Information:  Center left turn lane construction at 5 intersections along G Avenue at 28th Street, 31st Street, 32nd Street, 35th Street, and 38th Street. Project includes road widening for turn lanes, paving, and drainage improvements, including some ditching. 
Start Date:  April 11, 2025
End Date:  August 31, 2025

Road: Hot Mix Asphalt Wedging on various roads in Kalamazoo County
Current Status: Wedging will continue on the north half
Detour: Traffic to be maintained during the project. Temporary traffic control may be necessary.
